WordPress Website Solution
WordPress is a very popular CMS and website builder, it has the largest reach with developers, designers, and business owners. Is it the right solution for you?
The answer to that question very much depends on what you are wanting out of your website. This is a dilemma that many don’t have a clear answer for, even though they have an active website, and at times are spending good money on it. To have a website just because you have to, or that is the norm, is not the right answer.
You need to have very specific goals for your website. Its good to have small goals, at least you know what you are trying to achieve with it so it will give you a clear picture how to not waste your money.
WordPress is not like Shopify and Wix, it is very much not for the novice user and designers for that fact. This statement might be a point of disagreements with many different groups of people, but with around 15+ years of using WordPress, I can have my own opinion.
Gradually a WordPress solution will make your website look weird, if you don’t know how to use it correctly, and if you don’t keep up with it. We all have that time where we want to DIY something at home, and to a certain extent that is fine, but you cannot DIY a house, unless you become a builder. I am not against folks wanting to learn how to code and how to develop to start with WordPress. I am against folks that are trying to stay as far as they can from web technology and try to use WordPress as a solution, it just won’t work well, unless you want a website with lots of issues.
You cannot install a plugin for any issue that you find, you should be very careful with which plugins you choose, you should understand what problems a plugin will fix and what problems they will introduce. The WordPress plugin library is not an Apple App Store that has very specific security and quality assurances.
If you have a serious business need, like lead generation or an online shop, or even a business card or catalog website, if you do not use WordPress correctly, you will not have a professional website. You can use Wix or Shopify for that if you are not a technical individual and that solution might be fine for a long period of time, as those solution have been built for that specific reason, the novice user without coding experience, without WordPress experience.
