Who to choose from? Agency, Developer, or Do it yourself with website builders.

It’s a tough question, because the decision will leave you with a path that will be costly to change afterwards. Costly not only in terms of money, but mainly in terms of time.

If you are serious about your online business, DIY website builders like Wix and Foursquare are not your choice. They force you to look like others and you are a dime a dozen. You cannot customize to the level that suits you (without coding) and will be stuck in their CMS and templates with no way to get out until you re-do the whole site. But they are good if you just want a fast cheap site just to have a business card presence. Note that they will take a good portion of your time to learn/update hence the DIY. If you are busy with your business operations, DIY website builders will waste your time, and will take away from your main business operations.

Next question is to trust one developer, a team or an agency?

One developer is not scalable, a team is easier as there is always more support and an agency can become bureaucratic and sometimes expensive for the right reasons too.

It’s best to find the solution that you can trust. If you can trust the team or agency or even a developer, then stick with them. Trust is very important. Without trust you cannot move the business forward. Try to work with a team you can trust for your online business, let them focus on your business online and you focus on the physical business and try focusing on what you started the business for, running it, not rebuilding it.

Try to manage the online team/agency, don’t try to replace them internally as it will take your focus away from your main business. If you run a dealership, your main focus should be the dealership. Outline your needs online and let the online team run with that, set goals and expectations and manage the result. Don’t try to focus on the inner works of the online portion and lose track of the dealership itself.
